ORIGINAL CLASSIC ROCK PHOTO EXHIBITION:
Summer of ’69  Returns To Yorkville

Jimi Hendrix, John & Yoko, Jim Morrison, Led Zeppelin, Mick Jagger, Neil Young, James Brown, Bob Dylan, The Who… memories from the Summer of 1969 and beyond, preserved on film by a lucky 17-year-old freelance photographer for The Toronto Star.  Godfrey Jordan brings his historic photo archive to Yorkville’s Scollard Street Gallery from May 1st -31st for CONTACT 2008, North America’s largest photography festival.

As a teenager Godfrey Jordan chronicled a remarkable time in Toronto’s pop culture history. His images of audiences and artists include a unique backstage sequence of John Lennon taken right after his first performance without the other Beatles. Serge Chirqui, owner of Scollard Street Gallery, notes how Godfrey captured John’s contemplative nature and emotion in a portrait he calls ‘The Moment’, the point at which Lennon toiled with a decision about his past and future.

Serge Chirqui, a photographer himself appreciates the quality of a fellow Canadian’s work and is honoured to display Godfrey’s original collection in his gallery. He comments that Godfrey’s passion is evident in all of his work and that CONTACT 2008’s theme ‘Between Memory and History’ breathes within every photograph on display.

Godfrey Jordan has a film/video production background and is an author whose books have been published internationally and translated into various languages.  Godfrey maintains his photojournalism skills and as a purist continues shooting film to print from his negatives in the darkroom.
