3D GLASSES BRING PAINTINGS TO LIFE IN SCOLLARD STREET GALLERY:
Welcome To A New Dimension

April  2008                                                                                                                                                      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Scollard Street Gallery is hosting a show of 3D paintings created by Réal Fournier.

For over 20 years Fournier has been experimenting with 3D paintings.  Each painting, accompanied by a set of 3D glasses, is animated when various figures in the painting appear to float at different distances from the surface.  The trick is accomplished through knowledge of colour theory and the way complementary colours appear to advance or recede in relation to each other.

Réal Fournier follows his art passion full time.  At the age of 35, Fournier changed his career and began to paint.  Before painting full time, Real taught art and physical education to children in Quebec where he grew up.  In 1996, he sold his home in Quebec and ventured to Calgary where he lived in a small apartment above the Webster Gallery with his wife, Linda, a graphic designer.   He continues to live in Calgary as a full time artist, enjoying his surroundings, passion for the arts, travelling and sports.

Réal is influenced by nature and surroundings and accesses a reservoir of internal images, mainly from rural Quebec, connecting to beautiful gardens and sceneries.  He was influenced by artists such as Rene Richard, Marc-Aurele Fortin, Clarence Gagnon, Roger Cantin and the Group of Seven artists, which is evidenced in his use of vivid, bold, bright and vibrant colours. His painting process begins by sketching quick lines with eyes closed then he looks to see what they inspire and fills in buildings that sway to secret music, children that gallop in play, hills that dance and trees that are alive with spirits.

Réal Fournier’s 3D artwork is a permanent collection at Scollard Street Gallery.  Serge Chriqui, the owner of Scollard discovered Réal’s work and was automatically attracted to the dynamic use of colours and the thought process involved in creating the 3D effects which may also be seen as beautiful art with the regular eye.
