About her work...

The art of Toronto painter Sooghie Hahn reveals a magnificent capacity for transforming representations of familiar objects into transcendent expressions.  Many of Ms. Hahn’s paintings use floral scenes as their  subjects, yet the resulting art moves well beyond still-lifes of flowers. Approaching something much more symbolic and abstract, Ms. Hahn uses her painted objects as a conduit for expression.  The paintings emphasize the blue end of the palette in a way that serves, also, as an emotional choice and a technical decision.  The midnight blues and violets disclose a distinguishing style, while at the same time suggesting a certain mood that connects to a personal, human experience.  Ms. Hahn’s art compels the eye and the heart because of its exceptional combination of technique and expression.

Ms. Hahn has a powerful ability to constitute colours into an arrangement that suits the temperament of the painting.  Therefore, the mixture of floral images and saturated blue colour achieves a certain emotionality that cannot be fully explained, yet imparts a definitive hold on the viewer.  It might be said that Ms. Hahn has quite successfully brought her paintings to the level where the artistry and emotion imbue her paintings with magnitude and distinction.
