Biography

Born in Italy to a family of artists, the most famous being Francesco Hayez (1791-1882), who started and dominated the Italian Romantic Movement, Silvia had her first one-woman show in Rome in 1975 at " La Galleria dei Leoni " exhibiting oil paintings and fabric collages.

It was a resounding success, as were each successive show over the next few years.

Moving to Canada in 1979, she found the appropriate environment to fulfill her life long ambition to become a professional artist.

She does collages of ancient medieval Italian suburbs or typical Venetian canals, which take shape with the precision of an architectural drawing. Infinitesimal bits of fabric no bigger than a nail tip are carefully glued together, creating scenes with a special luminosity and vivacity.

The same palette of colours and details is found in her oil paintings where she depicts Canadian country life, bringing her people and their rural environments warmly alive.

Recently she found a new exciting way to express herself through watercolours, revisiting her favorite subjects.

Her work is presently exhibited in galleries across Canada and is part of private collections all over the world.
