François Faucher

Biography

Born in Thetford Mines, Quebec in 1959, François Faucher has been painting and exhibiting his works regularly since the age of sixteen. He worked as an architect for six years and, in 1989, decided to abandon his profession to dedicate himself exclusively to his art.

Faucher prefers oil painting and introduced a personal style which he named “Vibrationism”. To the observer, this form of art gives to the painting an illusion of vibration. Characterised by shaking effects, “Vibrationism” is defined by a peripheral deformation of the subject and by the addition of detached elements. Appropriate use of colours may also emphasize the effect of distortion.

Created in 1983, this unique style has developed over the years with persistent work and rechearch.

First accepted in Canada, the term “Vibrationism” has been recognized by art critics in the United States at Faucher's first solo exhibition in New York City in 1993. He then made the front page of the New York international magazine Artspeak. In the year 2000, Paris welcomed him to the Salon d’Automne.

Faucher has also had three solo exhibitions in museums in Canada, as well as having two books published on his career.

Artist's Statement

I paint what influences me in my daily life: golf, wine, medieval times that I discovered thanks to my daughter, but mostly music. I love music. When I was younger, I played the violin and we had a piano at home. Those are the two instruments I am most comforatble with. I modify them endlessly, I integrate one into the other. Music remains the central theme in most of my paintings.

Different light sources have always fascinated me. Candles and various beams of light are ever-present on my canvases and give them a certain cachet.
